Every day we are putting something on our skin, our hair, or our body—whether it’s shampoo, shaving cream, facial cleansers, hair spray, nail polish, aftershave, bug spray, or just lotion. How often do you bother reading the ingredients? Do you read them at all? Do you ignore them because you trust certain brands? Do you start to read the label but bow out after bumping into the first couple of confounding, multisyllabic ingredients? To my chagrin, I must report that even the brands that use the word “organic” on their label may contain harmful ingredients. Why? Because the organic food rules do not yet apply to cosmetics. At this time, there still are no regulations about the usage of the words “organic” and “natural.” You can be sure, marketers of skin creams will use any words they (legally) can to seduce you into making a purchase.
